This year's session of the tenth National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, closed this morning. The country's top political advisors submitted thousands of proposals.

After ten packed days, China's top political advisory body has concluded its annual session.

The Chairman of the national committee of the CPPCC Jia Qinglin declared the session a major success.

He said: "It was a united and morale-boosting session. It has demonstrated the vigor and vitality of the country's political consultation mechanism under the leadership of the Communist Party of China."

During this year's session, CPPCC members submitted more than five thousand proposals on how to build a socialist harmonious society in China.

The political advisors cited their major concerns - these are mainly dealing with the eleventh five-year development program, rural problems, education, medical care, technology development, and environmental protection.

CPPCC member Li Xianyi said: "The session has been very successful. We've raised many social issues. Most of the issues concern the problems of common people, such as rural issues and education."

CPPCC member Zhao Xiuyun said: "We've discussed a lot about the eleventh five-year development program. 2006 is the first year, so it's important. I believe the program can be successfully achieved."

At the closing ceremony, the CPPCC Chairman, Jia Qinglin, stressed the role of the top advisory body, and set out the advisory body's main tasks for the new year.

He said: "2006 is the first year of our eleventh five-year development program. All members of the CPPCC should work hard and make in-depth investigations around the country to provide more suggestions to help realize the program. We'll bring the unique function and role of people's political consultation into full play - to contribute to the building of a harmonious socialist society."

During this session, the Communist Party of China also raised a proposal on strengthening the country's political consultation system.

This year's session of the CPPCC has proved fruitful for its more than two thousand members. But with the task of helping the country fulfill its eleventh five-year development program, China's political advisors are expected to do an even better job in the years to come.
